Piece on GOF and OOTP in Entertainment Weekly
This week's edition of Entertainment Weekly contained a brief article on the Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix movies along with some quotes from director Mike Newell and actor Dan Radcliffe. Here's a snippet:
"I'm terribly pleased with the film," says director Mike Newell (Donnie Brasco) of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the fourth movie adapted from J.K. Rowling's series of novels, due Nov. 18. In two weeks, Newell will screen his work (minus completed special effects) for Warner Bros. brass for the first time. Nervous? "Of course!" he says. "This is a story where the kids [are] now teenagers. Is the audience ready for an older Harry Potter? They bought the book--I just hope we present a Harry Potter they want to see." Couldn't have set the stakes better ourselves.
Work has begun on the fifth film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. British TV veteran David Yates will direct, and screenwriter Michael Goldenberg follows Steven Kloves. Harry is still good to go. "My enthusiasm has absolutely not gone down," says Daniel Radcliffe, 15, who wouldn't rule out doing a non-Potter film before starting part 5 in January. "But it would be a mistake to want to show you can do stuff other than Harry Potter so badly that you just rush into something."
Thanks to TLC.

Jo Rowling issues 'John Doe' injunction
As result of last Friday's incident in which two men attempted to sell a stolen copy of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince to a reporter from The Sun, J.K. Rowling has just issued a "John Doe" injunction.
A law firm representative explains: "This far-reaching injunction applies to anyone who has, or has had, possession of all or part of the book without the consent of Bloomsbury Publishing and JK Rowling. "This type of injunction is known as a John Doe order because those to whom it applies are not named. It doesn't just apply to the two named people who were attempting to sell copies of the book. It catches anyone who is in unauthorised possession of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. "This injunction is much wider in scope than the John Doe order obtained for the previous Harry Potter book."

Ralph Fiennes discusses Dan Radcliffe
In a recent interview, the actor who plays Lord Voldemort in the upcoming Goblet of Fire movie talked about fellow actor Daniel Radcliffe:
"He's just a charming young man, very helpful. I think it must be very difficult for young actors when they are part of this incredible franchise, and there's such pressure and exposure, and certainly Daniel seems to be keeping it together. He's just a very charming person. I'm sure any of you can imagine that a young person can be affected very negatively by that, but he's a very good actor on the set. He does very well in the studio."

Lucky fan to interview JKR
Jo Rowling has decided to grant her only UK TV interview to a young fan aged between 8 and 16. The lucky winner will be among 70 children from around the world invited to Edinburgh Castle to meet the author and their one-on-one interview will be broadcast on ITV1.
ITV chiefs are now launching a nationwide search for the fan who knows the most about the schoolboy wizard. The entries will be whittled down to four finalists who will compete in a TV contest.
A spokesperson said: "It's a TV interview that everyone wants but only one child in the UK will actually get. We will give them all the training and help they need to ensure it's a must-see TV event and with their love of all things Harry Potter we are sure they will have dozens of burning questions to put to the author."
If they're looking for the biggest fan, I think there's a fair chance it'll be a MuggleNetter! Click here to enter.
Looking for some other competitions with the prize being a trip to Edinburgh as a cup reporter? Here is a page with all the details you need.

HBP shatters pre-order records
It has been reported that advance orders for the 6th Harry Potter installment have greatly outnumbered pre-orders for previous books in the series. Tesco.com director said: “No other book can match the Harry Potter series for popularity with our customers and we are expecting the sixth to break all records. Pre-orders are already at an all-time high and this is only going to increase as we get closer to the day the embargo is lifted.”

Ask JK Rowling a question!
As many of you are aware, on July 16, Melissa from TLC and I will be in Scotland interviewing JK Rowling on the day of the release of Half-Blood Prince.
We know you're all dying to get a question asked, and while we've got a stockpile of our own questions, we want to be sure that you guys have your voices heard, too. So Melissa and I are both opening threads on our sites' respective forums where you may post questions for JKR that we will consider when drawing up our list.
To add some fun to it, we're holding a contest. From now through June 19th, a committee of judges will be weeding through the threads for ten winning questions which will be posted here in a poll. The top three votegetting questions from each of our sites will be posed to Jo Rowling on July 16th.
Rules and Suggestions
1. As we will be interviewing Jo Rowling on the day of the book release (and will, in all likelihood, be done with, or close to being done with, the volume), do NOT submit questions that are likely to be answered in book six. We're looking for good, insightful, well-thought questions about the series and Jo in general. Questions that are unique and to which the answers are likely to be thorough are most likely to grab our attention.
2. The question MUST have been posted in the thread on our forums - NOT in comments here, NOT in e-mail - we're already getting so much e-mail that we're more likely to miss it than not if you do it that way.
3. We will still trawl the list as a whole (with the help of our forum mods, to save us time) to see what's really on your minds when making up our full list of questions - so your question not being chosen for the top 10 does not mean that it will not be asked. Also, please keep in mind that a question you post on this list might have already been on our list, so please don't be agitated about credit. That's not what this is about, after all.
4. Questions posted before 12:01 A.M. GMT on June 19th will be considered for this contest. From June 19th to June 30th, we will (with the help of our respective staffs) deliberate on the top ten. On July 1st, the poll will be posted here on MuggleNet and a separate one on TLC. The poll will close on July 10th, giving Jo Rowling plenty of opportunity to see them and devise a cunning non-answer. Just kidding... we hope.
5. Look at previous Jo Rowling interviews to remind yourself what has and hasn't been asked, and which questions got the best answers. Here is a good source.
6. The winners may choose to have their real or usernames revealed to Jo (and hence the rest of the world) when the questions are asked. If you are under 18 and wish to do this, please get permission from your parent or guardian.
7. Each person may submit a maximum of TWO questions. Choose yours carefully!
8. Attempts to influence forum staff into choosing your question will result in your disqualification.
9. Rule of priority: the first person to post a question gets credit for it.
And that's it. Click here for the thread and get brainstorming! Good luck!

Levine and Dale interviewed at BookExpo America
Arthur Levine and Jim Dale, American editor and audiobook narrator of the Potter series respectively, appeared at BookExpo America yesterday. Newsday caught up with them and posted interviews with the two in their blog. While they didn't reveal anything new, they did drop a few very vague hints. Some would consider his comments slightly spoiler-ish, so highlight in between the arrows below to read:
--> Alas, I was less successful wheedling any information about the new Harry Potter from the book’s editor, Arthur Levine. “There’s a new character named Maclaggen,” he said, and spelled the name. And ...? And nothing. Levine clammed up. Jim Dale had mentioned yesterday that somebody dies. True? “I can neither confirm nor deny.” Does Harry have a girlfriend? “I can’t say ... He’s definitely growing up in all areas of his life.” Later, he said he didn’t experience this book to be as dark as the last, though the overall arc of the series is that the “world is getting more pernicious (dangerous).” This one, he said, “has more romance in general.” And then he and marketing VP Jennifer Pasanen, who was sitting in, started humming “Love is in the air.” Well, it’s a clue. <--

JKR wins court battle against HBP thieves
The Scotsman (spoiler warning: this link will bring you to an article which reveals the name of the character rumoured to die in HBP) today wrote that J.K. Rowling has won a court injunction against the two accused men, aged 19 and 37, of stealing copies of Half-Blood Prince and subsequently trying to sell them.
In a statement on Jo's behalf, Legal firm Reynolds Porter Chamberlain said: “This order was made following our client’s discovery this morning that a copy of the forthcoming Harry Potter Book, Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince, had been obtained by unauthorised persons who had subsequently offered the book to newspaper journalists.”
A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: “We have charged a 37-year-old Kettering man with possession of an offensive weapon and with handling stolen property and a 19-year-old with theft and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. Both have been released on bail.”
The London Times also covers the story today saying John Askill, reporter for The Sun newspaper, met with the two men who were offering the book for a fee of £50,000.
“I looked down the barrel of a gun — and thought I was about to die for the sake of Harry Potter,” he writes in The Sun today. “For two horrific minutes I pleaded with the gunman not to shoot. Then he fired over my shoulder and into the air. I headed straight for my car and drove off, still shaking, leaving the two men with Harry Potter’s secrets.”
Both The Sun and The Mirror ran this story today.

Heyman confirms: OOTP may be filmed overseas
The HP producer told ScreenDaily.com: "We are exploring all options to determine the best place in the world to make the film. We are looking at the UK and other places all over the world."
Filming it in eastern Europe?
With its top-notch facilities, cheaper rates and tax incentives, the Czech Republic and other eastern European countries such as Hungary and Romania are among becoming increasingly attractive locations for film-makers priced out of the UK by the strong pound.
The fifth movie is scheduled to begin shooting early next year.

2 copies of HBP stolen, then recovered
From Newsround:
Two men have been arrested after shots were fired during an alleged deal to buy two copies of the new Potter book.
It's thought that the incident happened as a newspaper reporter attempted to buy Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which is coming out next month.
Bloomsbury sent us this statement:
"Bloomsbury Publishing thanks Northamptonshire Police for their help in recovering two stolen copies of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince but cannot comment further as this matter is now the subject of a police investigation. We hope that nobody will spoil the excitement for all Harry Potter fans who are looking forward to reading the new book on Saturday 16th July."
More information on this story can be found in an article by The Scotsman.
